by Jim Hilgedick
Certified Professional Photographer & Portrait Artist Jim Hilgedick first got involved with photography at the tender age of 9, using a school issued TLR. He shot TRI-X from hand loaded cassettes via a bulk roll and learned film development, printing and enlarging. The first camera he purchased was a Canon AE-1 he found at Montgomery Wards (of all places!) in 1981. Jim documented school events, graduations, vacations and a few weddings before joining the Army in 1985.
Jim did not initially pursue a career in photography, opting instead to work in communication technologies and eventually building his own highly successful satellite and communications business. Following the 2004 adoption of his three sons and a rekindling of his passion for photography, Jim decided it was time to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional photographer.
Jim is very active within the photographic community serving both the national and state Professional Photographers Associations with board and committee positions. He built the current MNPPA website and continues as its webmaster. Jim is a sought-after speaker and educator for new and seasoned photographers alike and serves as a liaison and exam proctor for the Certified Professional Photographer program. When not performing these duties, Jim takes advantage of the many photographic educational opportunities presented by the PPA, MNPPA and TCPPA.
